The head of the drug control department in the Khatlon region, Colonel Nodir Murodzoda, was detained on suspicion of fraud and attempting to receive a bribe from relatives of a drug trafficking suspect.
A Asia-Plus source in the law enforcement agencies of the region confirmed this information and said that Murodzoda was detained along with several of his subordinates two weeks ago.
He refused to provide additional information, only noting that the operation to detain him was carried out by employees of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan.
Meanwhile, according to Radio Ozodi, Colonel Murodzoda is accused of official forgery in the case of a suspect in drug smuggling and receiving a bribe in the amount of more than 150,000 somoni. He is charged with Article 247 Part 4 (large-scale fraud) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan.
A radio source in the investigating authorities said that a group of Agency employees led by Nodir Murodzoda, in cooperation with employees of the State Committee for National Security for Khatlon, detained a suspect in drug smuggling. Murodzoda took over the investigation of his case, but, contrary to the available evidence, tried to divert him from criminal responsibility or mitigate the charge.
