Tajikistan landslide kills three
A snow avalanche descended on the Dushanbe-Chanak highway, which connects the central part of Tajikistan and the north of the country, leaving a car with people under it. This was announced today, February 27, by Sputnik Tajikistan news agency.
According to the agency, as a result of the emergency, four people in the car died on the spot. One was taken to the hospital.
Earlier, from February 13 to February 15, 27 cases of avalanches were registered in Tajikistan. The largest one hit the city of Khorog (the administrative center of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region) on February 15. As a result, 15 people died. Four houses were completely destroyed, 35 houses and 5 household objects were partially destroyed. 12 people received various injuries. Residents of more than 400 households were evacuated from dangerous areas.
Avalanches in many mountainous regions of GBAO were caused by heavy snowfalls. According to the Committee for Emergency Situations of the Republic, the thickness of the snow cover in mountainous areas ranges from 20 centimeters to 1.2 meters in highland villages.
