29-year-old IS enrollment charges
The Hamburg Attorney General has filed charges against a 29-year-old for membership in the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS). The man from Tajikistan is accused of having mediated financial aid for members of the IS imprisoned in Syria and Iraq, the public prosecutor’s office said on Monday in Hamburg. His goal is said to have been the support of widows and orphans of killed IS members and female prisoners. At the beginning of 2020, the man is said to have maintained contacts with both the prisoners and donors.
The man lives in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is not in custody, according to the Attorney General’s Office. The presumption of innocence applies until the final conclusion of the criminal proceedings. If convicted, the 29-year-old faces a prison sentence of between one and ten years.
