Erdogan Doubts That Ukraine Will Show Success in the War With Russia
Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin called the Russian-Ukrainian war a conflict between Russia and the West, comparing it to a new cold war in which the Kremlin is gaining the upper hand.
Turkish Presidential Speaker Ibrahim Kalin said he did not believe in Ukraine’s success in the war with Russia. He said this on the air of the Haberturk TV channel on May 7.
According to him, in April he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The conversation then turned, among other things, to the war in Ukraine. Kalym noted that after meeting with the leader of the Russian Federation, he realized that Russia was at war with the West.
“I sent Putin a series of questions about Ukraine. I asked when this war would end. My own analysis, which I got with Mr. Putin: this is not a war between Ukraine and Russia. This is a war between Russia and the West. This is a kind of new cold war. Cold war 2.0,” Kalyn said.
When clarifying the journalist’s question about the Cold War, Kalyn clarified that a bloody war is going on in Ukraine and Turkey knows this. However, along with the Russian-Ukrainian war, in his opinion, there is also a confrontation between Russia and Western countries.
“Russia proposed to the West 30 years after the Cold War: ‘Let’s build a new security architecture in Ukraine, Europe and any country,’ but no agreement was reached,” Kalyn said.
At the same time, the press secretary of the Turkish president expressed confidence that Kyiv would not achieve success at the front.
“I am sure that the war will not end for Ukraine with any positional gains,” Kalyn said.
At the same time, Kalyn added that Russia successfully circumvents sanctions and wins the war, controlling 18% of the territory of Ukraine.
“You know that they [Western countries] called it a war of attrition. It won’t work. Sanctions don’t work. Now there is a very bloody war going on. You can’t say that Ukraine is winning it. The Russians control 18% of the occupied territory,” Kalyn said.
Also, the speaker of the Turkish leader said that Ankara has proposals to resolve the conflict, which he discussed at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Kalyn did not specify which ones, and said it was too early to call them a peace plan.
Recall, on May 7, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the United States offered Ankara to send S-400 air defense systems to Ukraine , but was refused. Also, the Turks refused to provide access to the Ukrainian military to anti-aircraft missile systems in order for them to get acquainted with them.
Earlier, on April 26, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Ukraine and the Russian Federation to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible in order to avoid thousands more civilian casualties during the hostilities.
