Italy Voices Support for Libya’s Post-Flood Reconstruction Plans
The Italian government has expressed support for proposals by Libya’s interim leadership to rebuild areas devastated by recent flooding, Libya’s Presidential Council said Sunday.
In a meeting with Council chief Mohamed Menfi, Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino conveyed Italy’s backing for plans to reconstruct flood-hit zones in eastern Libya and endorsed the council’s Supreme Financial Committee overseeing the efforts, according to a council statement.
The Presidential Council, part of Libya’s interim government administration, has urged unified national plans to redevelop the impacted areas.
Ambassador Buccino renewed Italy’s condolences for flood victims while affirming commitment to the reconstruction vision, the council said.
The two officials also discussed deepening Italian-Libyan ties across sectors such as air travel, immigration, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to the statement.
Menfi thanked Italy for its support and assistance, including responding to Libya’s call for international help to locate missing people and aid citizens in flood-hit zones.
