Morocco’s Walid Regragui to Carlo Ancelotti: ‘You are the best’

Rabat – As football fans around the world continue to enjoy Morocco’s hosting of the FIFA Club World cup, there was an addition of appealing content to the tournament as the much-admired Moroccan Coach Walid Regragui spoke with the highly decorated and well-respected Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti at a training session.

In footage from Spanish sports outlet El Desmarque, Regragui stood next to Ancelotti as he complimented his fellow coach on a professional and personal level.

The two coaches greeted each other while congratulating one another on their teams’ performances in 2022 — Real Madrid won the European Champions League and Spain’s top-tier league, while Morocco captured the world’s attention and heart with a historic run at the World Cup in Qatar.

Standing on the sidelines of the pitch, Regragui pointed out the different pitches showing Real Madrid’s coach where the teams have been training in Rabat for the Club World Cup.

“I have learned so much from you,” Regragui said in Spanish to Ancelotti, adding: “You are the best.”

Later speaking to the press, the Moroccan coach announced how happy he was to have the Spanish team here in Rabat. Reflecting his respect towards the Spanish team, Regragui named Real Madrid as the “best team in the world.”

He added, “Let’s see if they [Real Madrid] are going to win the cup in our country… Good luck.”

Regragui was filmed describing the experience of hosting the Spanish team as an “honor…one of the greatest honors for me…we can learn a lot from these people.”

When Spanish media asked Regragui what he liked about Ancelotti and his coaching style, he replied: “I like that he is close to the players and that he always wins, he is a humble person, and this is the most important thing in football.”

Yesterday, Ancelotti echoed the same sentiment as he expressed “excitement” to be in Morocco, the “country of football.”
