World Para Athletics Championships: Morocco’s Fatima Ezzahra Idrissi Breaks 1500m World Record
Moroccan para-athlete Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi has cracked the 1500 m world record at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championship taking place in Paris July 8 – 17.
Fatima Ezzahra won gold in women’s 1500m T12, setting new world record at 4:22.15. American athlete Liza Corso ranked 2nd followed by Tunisia’s Somaya Bousaid.
The Paris championships also saw an epic battle in the men’s 5000m T13 when Morocco’s Paralympic gold medalist Yassine Ouhdadi El Ataby overtook Australia’s reigning world champion Jaryd Clifford in the last 50m to win in 15:16.97.
Moroccan Mouncef Bouja offered his country silver medal in the 100m/T12, while Oumaima Oubraym took bronze in women’s club throw F32.
The North African Kingdom is taking part in the Paris World Handisport championship with 18 athletes vying for medals in various competitions.
