Morocco is Third Most Attractive Tourist Destination in Africa


Bloom Consulting, the Spanish consulting firm has ranked Morocco as the third best place for tourism in the African continents, as well as being the fourth best country for trade.

According to the firm’s Country Brand Rankings, which examines the participating countries’ economic and online performance and digital appeal, Morocco ranked 43rd in tourism at international levels, while Egypt held the first spot as the most attractive country for tourism in Africa, VisaGuide.World reports.

“Egypt shows serious determination, coming in at number 25 in the ranking and it has shown great strength in overcoming internal challenges and social unrest,” the report explains.

The second country to follow was South Africa, which on a worldwide level is ranked 41st, followed by Mauritius and Tanzania, ranked fourth and fifth places. On the other hand, Morocco is ranked 50th in the world.

On the other hand, Nigeria was the first country from Africa in trade, while it was 36th at an international level, followed by South Africa in second place (39th in the world).

The ranking, which was based on five main factors such as tourism and talent as well as an attraction to investment, includes 80 countries from different continents, and it shows countries and their rates for all 2022 and 2023 periods.

Morocco has been dealing with a difficult tourism season in the last years as COVID-19 affected public health and travel restrictions were imposed by governments internationally.

The tourism sector has shown good resilience and managed to resume its pre-COVID performance, thanks to a series of initiatives launched by the government to put tourist activity back on track with its achievements in the past,” Fatim Zahra Ammor, the Moroccan Minister of Tourism said last month.

Bank Al-Maghrib, the Moroccan central bank showed that last year, the post-pandemic recovery, totalling $1.647 billion by the end of 2021.

Morocco welcomed 10.9 million tourists between January and November of 2022, with overnight stays reaching 7.9 million – 23 per cent more than in 2021 and even one per cent more than in pre-pandemic levels.

In addition, Morocco’s tourism revenues have reached nearly $8 billion in the first 11 months of 2022, and the numbers represent about 112 per cent compared to 2019. The country has also managed to recover almost 84 per cent of the number of tourists compared to 2019.

Some of the best destinations to visit in Morocco are Marrakech, Rabat, Fez, Tangier and Casablanca.
