Morocco is quickly becoming a big player in global security, showing the world it is serious about tackling crime and working together with other countries to make the world a safer place.

Morocco made major strides in strengthening its security relationships around the world, especially after the election of a DGSN candidate as vice president for Africa at Interpol, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).

Throughout the year, Morocco deepened its security partnerships with nations across Latin America, Asia, and Africa.

In May, the DGSN signed a memorandum of understanding with Brazil’s Federal Police. In addition, the Directorate carried out discussions with officials from Turkey, Serbia, Hong Kong, Senegal, China, and Norway to enhance security cooperation.

The country also strengthened ties with key European partners, including France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, and Italy, focusing on counterterrorism, transnational crime, and police training.

In total, the DGSN processed more than 6,800 international cooperation requests in 2024. These ranged from fighting drug trafficking and illegal immigration to sharing vital database information and other law enforcement matters.

Spain accounted for 37% of the requests, followed by France with 28%.

Morocco’s Interpol National Central Bureau in Rabat proved instrumental in tackling crime across borders. It processed over 7,000 requests, helping recover 380 stolen vehicles and contributing to 135 arrests through international judicial cooperation.

Extraditions also highlighted Morocco’s commitment to international law enforcement.

The country extradited 82 individuals in 2024, a 52% increase compared to the previous year, and arrested 45 foreign nationals based on international warrants.
