Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Ascends to Kuwaiti Throne
Rabat – Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has stepped into the role of Emir after the death of Cheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s ascension to the throne was officially announced in a statement released by the Council of Ministers, as reported by Kuwaiti television networks.
The constitutional guidelines and Article Four of the succession law have paved the way for Kuwait’s news Emir Cheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to assume the esteemed position of Emir of Kuwait.
Following the death of Emir Cheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the age of 86, the Kuwaiti Council of Ministers has declared an official mourning period extending over 40 days.
In addition, public departments are set to remain closed for three days to honor the late Emir’s legacy and service to the nation.
Born in Kuwait on June 25, 1937, Cheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was the sixth son of Cheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, the tenth ruler of the State of Kuwait, whose leadership spanned from 1921 to 1950.
Throughout his reign, the late Emir held pivotal roles in Kuwait’s governance. He commenced his political journey in February 1962 by assuming the position of governor for a remarkable 16-year tenure. In March 1978, he ascended to the helm of the Ministry of Interior, ultimately becoming the Minister of Defense in 1988.
Cheikh Nawaf was named heir apparent in 2006. During the tumultuous events of 1990, when Iraqi troops invaded the oil-rich emirate, Cheikh Nawaf was serving as the defense minister.
The late Emir was known for his modesty and his propensity for maintaining a low profile despite his prominent position as Kuwait’s monarch.
