Rabat – The UN Security Council is set to vote on a new resolution demanding a humanitarian ceasefire to end the Israeli occupation forces’ disastrous war in Gaza.
The new vote comes amid uncertainty as the UNSC has consistently failed to adopt similar resolutions due to the power that its permanent member states hold.
For weeks, the US has been opposing the much-needed ceasefire, using its veto power to stand against any attempts to end the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
The US has claimed that a ceasefire would be beneficial for Hamas despite Israel’s relentless attacks, targeting tens of thousands of civilians across the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.
A slight glimpse of hope has emerged as the US issued one of the strongest statements about Israeli aggression since the launch of the war on October 7.
Last week, Biden warned the Israeli occupation’s government that its “indiscriminate bombing” of Gaza could leave Israel isolated on the world stage.
“Israel’s security can rest on the United States, but right now it has more than the United States. It has the European Union, it has Europe, it has most of the world supporting them,” Biden said to donors during a fundraiser on Tuesday.
He added that Israel is starting to lose that support “by indiscriminate bombing that takes place.”
The statement came a few days after the US vetoed a resolution that called for a ceasefire.
Last week, however, the UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly for a ceasefire, with 153 member countries in favor.
The Israeli occupation forces have murdered over 19,000 people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank since October 7.
The relentless attacks have been targeting civilians everywhere, including shelters and hospitals.
On Saturday, Israeli occupation forces sparked outrage for using bulldozers to crush civilians alive. Dozens of people were killed while many others were injured.
