Egypt, Morocco Get Off to a Great Start in CAF African Schools Football Championship UNAF Qualifiers
The CAF African Schools Football Championship UNAF Qualifiers got off to a flying start in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Sunday, 17 December.
The opening day of the three-day tournament saw hosts Egypt taking on Morocco in both the boys and girls’ category to officially kick off the youth competition.
Egypt are competing against Morocco and Libya in both the girls and boys divisions to determine the CAF African Schools Football Championship UNAF representatives.
With the backing of the crowd, Egypt managed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Morocco thanks to Mohamed Mostafa as well as Admen Abdel Rahman’s individual strikes, with Osama Baqul getting the consolation goal for Morocco.
In the girl’s division, victory went the opposite direction as Morocco triumphed with a clinical 8-0 scoreline that was led by a Maryam Obla hat-trick.
The action continues on Monday, with Libya set to take the field in both the boys and girls division to contest for a place at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals set to take place in April next year.
The UNAF Zone qualifiers are staged in a round-robin format for both boys and girls with the winner of each pool to be declared as the winners of the Zone.
