Putin Invited the President of Turkmenistan to the Victory Parade in Moscow
Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to invite his remaining allies to celebrate Victory Day in Moscow. Another invitation was received by his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedov during a telephone conversation between them.
“The President of Turkmenistan thanked the leader of a friendly state for the invitation,” the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported . However, it did not specify whether Berdymukhammedov accepted the invitation. The Kremlin press service has not yet officially confirmed Putin’s telephone conversation with the head of Turkmenistan.
On May 5, Putin called up Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and also invited him to Moscow to celebrate Victory Day. This was reported on the website of the Tajik leader. Later, Rahmon’s press service clarified that the president had not yet decided whether he would come to the events in Russia, but he would definitely participate in the May 9 celebrations in Dushanbe.
The only foreign leader to join Putin’s celebrations this year is Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. He arrived in Moscow on May 7, where he was met by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin. Japarov did not cancel his visit after the May 3 attack by two drones on the Kremlin.
In 2022, there was not a single foreign leader at the Victory Day parade in Moscow. The Kremlin explained this by saying that the date was not an anniversary. For the same reason, there were no guests at the event in 2021 either.
Before that, the President of the United States, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, the President of France, the President of China, the German Chancellor, the Secretary General of the UN and even the Secretary General of NATO came to Moscow for the May 9 parades.
This year will mark the 78th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. It is expected that military parades will be held in 28 cities of Russia, and more than 10 thousand people and 125 pieces of weapons and equipment will take part in the parade on Red Square, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced earlier.
After the drone attack on the Kremlin, the Russian special services are doing everything necessary to ensure security on May 9, Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured. In particular, the launch of drones was banned in Moscow, and not only law enforcement agencies, but also employees of budgetary organizations, who are on duty around the clock in their yards on the May holidays, were thrown into the fight against them.
