Morocco and Saudi Arabia enjoy strong diplomatic ties, with partnerships in various areas.
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita held on Friday a phone call with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah to discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties in various fields, including promoting peace and stability in the MENA region.
The pair discussed regional and international developments of common interest, as well as ways Moroccan and Saudi efforts were exerted to address them, indicated the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
In addition, the two ministers also discussed ways of enhancing cooperation with the aim of achieving the best interests of Morocco and Saudi Arabia, as well as their people.
The phone call also touched on the efforts that the two countries have made to support the joint Arab action to ensure the stability and prosperity of the countries and people of the Arab region.
Throughout the years, Morocco and Saudi Arabia have maintained close and friendly relations, with the two countries cooperating in various fields.
One of the two countries’ main areas of cooperation includes the fields of economics, as they have signed several agreements to promote trade and investment. In 2022, the volume of trade between Morocco and Saudi Arabia reached $1.7 billion.
In addition, Morocco and Saudi Arabia have signed various agreements to explore and develop energy cooperation. In 2022, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on the peaceful use of atomic energy.
Another area of cooperation is in the field of military and security. In January this year, the head of Morocco’s General Directorates of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST) hosted in Rabat the Vice President of Saudi State Security, Abdullah Fahad Salih Al-Owais.
During the meeting, the pair signed an agreement to strengthen the two countries’ cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
Saudi Arabia is one of the countries that support Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara.
